Viceroy DC Hotel Review

Viceroy Washington, DC – Boutique Style Hotel

Address:  1430 Rhode Island Ave NW, Washington, DC 20005

Avg Nightly Price: $230

My room: The 1-Bedroom/2-Bathroom King Suite with Living Room

Covid Measures: Masks in public spaces, no housekeeping or room service

Personal Rating: 8/10, I would recommend and stay here again.

Pros:

  • Extremely soft comfy beds. If you’re a firm mattress lover maybe this isn’t for you, but I want to melt into my bed and pillows and this bed was EVERYTHING!
  • The Viceroy has hired and trained some above and beyond, helpful, friendly staff. They took amazing care of me, the few issues I had they were empathetic and prompt to correct, couldn’t have had a better staff. I would come back just for them.
  • The lobby is such a vibe! Ugh, I was obsessed with the retro chic vibe throughout the entire building. Luscious velvet green chairs and wallpaper, fun pops of colorful couches, energetic and vibrant artwork, I mean just soooo cute. Just look at the pics, it’s such beautiful vintage set up starting from the lobby, the lounge still reading area, all the way to the rooms. I couldn’t get enough of the lounge space and spent my afternoons working on the plush couches with a coffee.
  • Breathtaking views on the rooftop pool with a very sexy bar! Perfect for a nightcap or happy hour drink. Rooftop pools with a view have a special place in my heart *swoon*!
  • Robe and slippers provided, insert praise dance! This may not mean much to some, but I loooove hotel robes and relaxing after a day of traveling. I get super disappointed when I get to a new hotel and alas no damn robe! I could do a whole post on the best robes in town!

  • I had the most luxurious showers with their Natura Bisse skincare products. They did not cut any corners with the wash, lotion, and soaps which y’all know most hotels’ products might as well just say ingredients: water! I loved them so much so that they got me for a whole $35 and I bought the body wash to take home! But trust me, it’s THAT good!
  • The hotel also has incredible walkability! There are so many delicious food options, bars, and shops just a stone’s throw from the front door. Be sure to check out Anthony at Black Whiskey (if you’re into that sort of thing) for a whiskey lover’s dream! They have over 500 whiskey, bourbon, and scotches available, and Anthony is very informative on giving suggestions. 5 hours, some great convo with a cool ass bartender, a lost count of drinks, and I walked back to my hotel a very happy woman!
  • BPM Coffee & Wine Bar in the lobby of the hotel. Although more of an early morning cafe than actual wine bar, this is a great stop for a morning pastry, coffee, or breakfast sandwich. You can buy a bottle of wine for your room and even after they close you can get a tasty grab and go sandwich from the fridge in the main lobby. I had an egg and cheese croissant for breakfast a few mornings and they were delicious!
  • The second bathroom in my room was also a major plus…no I didn’t have anyone over and yes, I was traveling alone haha but I enjoyed having the option of both. And it was a good mental note for whenever I am traveling with others that this option is out there.

Cons:

  • No coffee machine in the room. I’ve grown accustomed to the little extras that make the stay that much more enjoyable and being a certified coffee snob, I appreciate having that option in my room to start my day.
  • They are also currently under construction (June 2021 for reference) which I learned about while being woken up to the sound of drilling literally right above my head at 8am!!! Ugh, and after my evening at Black Whiskey, let’s just say I was more than a little annoyed. I was promptly moved to the other side of the building, the staff was super cool about it, but with this smaller boutique style hotel although the new room was quieter, the noise couldn’t be avoided. Make sure to request the “not noisy” side when booking.
  • $50 valet parking, like wtf?! Make sure you factor that into your total cost when considering staying at the Viceroy. There’s only a sprinkle and I do mean sprinkle, of street parking amidst a sea of street cleaning/no parking etc. signs. Prepare to pay a grip or put on your flats geared up for a nice long walk because the street is the only self-park option.
  • The pool closes at 4, I mean really who’s done working by 4?! I had things going on most days past 4 that I never really got to enjoy the pool.

All in all, I enjoyed my stay at the Viceroy. This isn’t the destination for the most luxurious experience you’ll ever have but it was beautiful, perfect for my work trip, and had for the most part everything I needed. Good price range for the value, great staff, and an enjoyable stay. Hope this helps, enjoy!
